Ship Deck Resurfacing

!±8± Ship Deck Resurfacing

Decks are an essential part of any ship, be it a small fishing boat or a cruise liner. The difference in various decks is the size and the number of decks present. Small ships or boats usually one. On the other hand, large cruise liners, cargo ships or naval ships may have three or more decks. A deck is defined as a permanent covering over a section of the hull of the ship. On a boat or a ship the first layer of the deck is a horizontal structure that provides support and strength to the ship. This forms the lid of the hull that doubles as a smooth working surface.

Most ships have more than one level within the hull and above the primary deck. These are similar to the flooring of a multi-storied building that is also referred to as decks. One of the main purposes of a deck is to provide structural support. Apart from that, it is also constructed to provide weather tightness and keep away water, dust and heat from seeping into the lower layers of the vessel.

It is important for decks to be adequately maintained. They are an important element on the ship. In order to keep them in shape and look good, they need to be periodically resurfaced. The decks are usually made of wood, metal or fiberglass. There are many companies that undertake the job of resurfacing, as it does require expertise. The use of epoxy compounds has become common, because it is easy to apply and guarantees a perfect solution for resurfacing.

When a deck is being resurfaced, the common factors that need to be taken care of are water and chemical resistance, electrical resistance, shrinkage and combined performance. Ship deck resurfacing is not a simple task. There are a number of processes involved. Once the materials are applied, the curing process begins. This process can continue for days or for weeks depending on the area to be resurfaced.

Many luxury boat owners get their boats resurfaced in order to keep them looking clean and safe.

Fast Facts About Swimming Pool Filters

!±8± Fast Facts About Swimming Pool Filters

Putting up a swimming pool requires various parts to complete its total system. Aside from pool pumps and water, pool filters should not be excluded in the list. In fact, filters are vital in the whole operation of the swimming pool. They are responsible in maintaining the cleanliness and clarity of the water. Such debris like sand, silt, and other sediments are inevitable to fall inside the pool. This article helps you to further understand the different pool filters used in a swimming pool. So if you are planning to build one, get an advanced knowledge about filters. They come in three forms:

Cartridge Filters

If you are familiar with the oil filter equipped in the car's engine, then its operation is almost similar to cartridge filters. This how cartridge filter works - a dirty water will pass through the filter material, the debris on the water will be left inside, and water goes back to the water. Among filters, this one is easy to use and designed for replacement every six months or more; while others may last for few weeks or so. These are easy to clean and can be reused for the next season.

Sand Filters

This filter is said to be the natural method of filtering the water. A dirty pool water will pass through the layers of sand, then impurities and sediments are left. The 'new' filtered water will come out clean and free clear to see. Sand filters require backwashing in order to remove the collected debris in the sand. Cleaning the sand filters are needed every couple of weeks for effective filtering of debris.

Diatomaceous Earth Filters

D.E. Filter is dubbed as the best pool water cleaner among all filters. This filter has tiny diatoms that filter out debris as small as 5 microns. Even the smallest dirt cannot escape from this filter. Just like sand filters, Diatomaceous Earth must also be backwashed especially when the pressure increases inside the filter. When the diatomaceous earth is washed away, it needs to be refilled with another earth through the skimmer.

With the help of pool filters, these unwanted elements will be collected and removed in the pool water.
